We are thrilled to be partnered with them as we look to bring a Corporate Accounting Lead to their team of dedicated professionals!

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Corporate Accounting Lead is responsible for accurate and timely execution of core accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, reconciliations, and financial reporting. This role handles the day-to-day financial operations that keep OSC running smoothly while also taking ownership of the project audit function and ecosystem service contract tracking.

As you gain familiarity with our processes and systems, you'll have opportunities to identify and implement automation improvements, collaborate with our IT Business Analyst on process enhancements, and supervise junior staff on specific projects when capacity allows. This is a hands-on accounting role for someone who wants to do excellent work, solve problems independently, and contribute to making our finance operations more efficient.

Role and Responsibilities:

Day-to-Day Accounting Operations
  • Process accounts payable in accordance with OSC procurement and employee expense policies
  • Prepare payments for vendor invoices, project claims, and employee expense reports
  • Generate and distribute invoices to members and other required invoices
  • Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on overdue accounts in consultation with Director of Finance
  • Complete month-end close activities and provide comprehensive files to Director of Finance for review
  • Prepare HST returns for Director of Finance review and filing
  • Lead payroll and benefits administration for OSC employees, including onboarding, RRSP/health benefit enrollment, and third-party payment processing
  • Manage Workers' Compensation Board requirements across all provinces
  • Prepare year-end audit file documentation for external financial statement audits
  • Support Director of Finance and CFO with financial reporting and ad hoc requests as needed 

Project Audit Function
  • Lead the internal project audit process in conjunction with external consultant
  • Conduct 6-8 project audits annually
  • Complete audit testing, documentation, and member communications as required
  • Supervise Project Accountants or Finance Analysts on audit work when their capacity permits
  • Support claims review process, particularly for complex concepts relating to in-kind and capital costs,

​​​​​​​Ecosystem Service Contract Tracking
  • Maintain up-to-date tracking of ecosystem service contract commitments and actual spend
  • Work with Engagement/Membership teams to ensure all contracts are captured in commitments
  • Monitor actual spend against commitments and report variances to budget owners
  • Identify opportunities to reallocate funds where needed

​​​​​​​ISED Bi-Annual Reconciliations
  • Compile O&A sections of bi-annual ISED reconciliations accurately and on time for Director of Finance review
  • Review project portion of reconciliation to ensure all adjustments, advances, and reimbursements are captured

​​​​​​​Process Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to automate manual processes and reduce duplication
  • Work with IT business analyst services to define business process requirements for system improvements
  • Implement efficiency improvements in accounting workflows

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or college diploma in Finance, Accounting, or related field
  • 3-5 years of corporate accounting and/or  financial reporting and analysis experience
  • Strong experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and reconciliations
  • Experience with grant funding, industry match ratios, and project finance (or willingness to learn quickly)
  • Audit or claims review experience is an asset
  • Comfortable working independently in a remote environment

Nice to Have
  • Bilingual (French/English)
  • Experience in not-for-profit, innovation, or blue economy sectors
  • Familiarity with process documentation and system implementation
