Role Description:
As Production Scheduler & Planner, you will take ownership of FPS’s scheduling function, which includes collecting data, building a practical scheduling system, and coordinating resources to meet milestones and ship dates across a mix of standard product runs and highly customized contract work. Reporting directly to the President, you will collaborate closely with Engineering Leads, Production Supervisors, Procurement, and Management to align day-to-day priorities with long-term capacity planning.

As Production Scheduler & Planner, you will take ownership of FPS’s scheduling function, which includes collecting data, building a practical scheduling system, and coordinating resources to meet milestones and ship dates across a mix of standard product runs and highly customized contract work. Reporting directly to the President, you will collaborate closely with Engineering Leads, Production Supervisors, Procurement, and Management to align day-to-day priorities with long-term capacity planning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare weekly production reports and lead weekly planning meetings.
- Build and maintain an organized production schedule (initially in Excel/MS Project) with reliable ship-date approximations.
- Gather progress updates from supervisors and project managers; communicate status, risks, and recovery plans to stakeholders.
- Track material deliveries, equipment utilization, and workforce capacity; adjust schedules to resolve delays or constraints.
- Improve planning processes by developing time estimates for FPS products and contract-specific fabrication.
- Develop basic policies and procedures for production scheduling.
- Evaluate and implement scheduling software and practical tools over the first year.
- Assist management with long-term capacity planning.
- Coordinate closely with engineering and production teams, analyzing production data to identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.
- Provide management with clear forecasts on accepted work, incoming demand, and resource needs to ensure safe, on-time delivery.
- Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2+ years in production planning, manufacturing scheduling, or project management, ideally in a small-to-medium manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of project/production planning software (e.g., MS Project) and Excel-based scheduling tools.
- Familiarity with inventory/ERP systems (Syspro preferred).
- Proficiency in Excel and data analysis; experience with lean/continuous improvement is an asset.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills; attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills; able to work independently, in ambiguity, and build trusted relationships on-site with production teams.
- Respect for quality and safety expectations of large utility customers; practical, hands-on mindset that fits a busy, high-mix operation.
