Meridia is excited to partner with Living Stone to recruit a Production Manager to lead operations in their stone fabrication facility in Mount Uniacke, NS.

Role Description

Reporting directly to the President, the Production Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of countertop fabrication from template through to installation readiness. You will ensure manufacturing activities are of the highest quality and are conducted in a safe, efficient, and accountable manner.

Managing a skilled production team, you will plan and execute work to meet sales forecasts and installation timelines, while driving continuous improvement across operations. This includes reducing waste, improving labour productivity, managing overtime, optimizing tooling, and enhancing overall workflow efficiency.

Your focus will be on delivering exceptional product quality, maintaining real-time visibility of production, and ensuring every job progresses accurately, on time, and to Living Stone’s high standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Production Operations
  • Lead daily production across cutting, CNC, edging, polishing, quality control, and finishing.
  • Plan labour, equipment, and production schedules to meet installation timelines and sales forecasts.
  • Ensure jobs are fabricated according to detailed drawings, templates, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, increase throughput, improve labour productivity, and optimize tooling and processes.
  • Develop and monitor production targets, KPIs, and throughput; identify bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.
  • Evaluate and improve shop layout and workflow to support optimal productivity and safety.
Job Processing & Workflow Management
  • Validate all job information prior to production release, including measurements, drawings, materials, edge details, and customer specifications.
  • Maintain accurate and timely data entry in production scheduling and job-tracking systems to ensure real-time visibility of job status.
  • Proactively identify and resolve workflow issues to maintain schedule integrity.
  • Coordinate closely with Scheduling, Sales, Procurement, and Installation teams to ensure alignment and delivery timelines.
Team Leadership & Development
  • Lead, coach, and support a team of CNC operators, fabricators, polishers, and quality control personnel.
  • Assign work based on skills, workload, and production demand.
  • Foster a positive, safety-focused, and accountable shop culture.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, training, and performance management.
  • Develop and maintain cross-training plans to ensure adequate coverage and operational flexibility.
  • Lead regular toolbox talks to communicate priorities, safety updates, and production goals.
Quality Assurance
  • Enforce quality standards at all stages of fabrication.
  • Conduct inspections throughout production and approve finished work prior to release.
  • Reduce rework, remakes, and scrap through root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Ensure consistent handling of stone characteristics and finishing standards.
  • Protect and enhance Living Stone’s reputation for premium craftsmanship.
Safety, Equipment & Facility Management
  • Ensure compliance with provincial OH&S regulations, silica control programs, PPE requirements, and internal safety standards.
  • Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and incident reviews.
  • Maintain safety documentation, incident reports, training records, and SOP compliance.
  • Oversee equipment operation, maintenance, and repair scheduling for CNCs, saws, polishers, and material handling equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient production environment.
  • Identify and support capital improvements, equipment upgrades, and process enhancements.
Collaboration
  • Work closely with Scheduling to build efficient production plans.
  • Coordinate with Procurement and Inventory to ensure material availability.
  • Partner with templating and installation teams to ensure seamless project flow from start to finish.
  • Communicate proactively with Sales on capacity, lead times, constraints, and customer considerations.
Your Qualifications
  • 3–5+ years of production leadership experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or production environment (stone, millwork, cabinetry, or similar preferred).
  • Strong understanding of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement practices.
  • Experience with production scheduling tools and job-tracking systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, templates, and fabrication specifications.
  • Hands-on leader with the ability to motivate, coach, and hold teams accountable.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Working knowledge of CNC machinery and fabrication processes is an asset.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and quality excellence.
  • Comfortable working in a production environment, including standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 lbs with appropriate PPE.
