Reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer, this senior role plays a critical part in ensuring the Group meets its regulatory obligations, fosters a strong compliance culture, and proactively manages compliance and conduct risks across jurisdictions.

The ideal candidate will be a credible and experienced compliance leader who can provide proactive guidance, challenge constructively, and secure the support of senior executives and Boards across the Group. This role requires both strategic vision and hands-on leadership in a fast-paced, regulated environment.

Your Responsibilities:

Reporting to: Chief Compliance Officer
Direct Reports: Regional Head of Compliance (Europe) and Senior Compliance Operations Officer

Regulatory Oversight & Execution

• Oversee and coordinate the Group’s compliance programs and activities across multiple jurisdictions.

• Ensure the Group remains compliant with relevant laws, regulations, and license conditions in Bermuda, Gibraltar, Malta, and Caribbean markets.

• Monitor regulatory developments and guide timely implementation of required changes to policy or process.

Support to the CCO and Senior Management

• Act as a key advisor to the Chief Compliance Officer on emerging regulatory risks, material breaches, and regional compliance trends.

• Assist in preparing Group-level Board and Committee reports, including those to the Risk and Audit Committees.

• Support the CCO in developing the Group compliance strategy, framework, and budget.

Regional Leadership & Engagement

• Provide leadership to local compliance teams, driving alignment in standards, policies, and reporting.

• Facilitate collaboration and consistency across jurisdictions while respecting local regulatory nuances.

• Serve as a senior point of contact for regional executives and Boards on compliance matters.

Regulator Relations & External Engagement

• Build and maintain effective working relationships with regulatory bodies across all Group jurisdictions.

• Lead or support regulatory inspections, thematic reviews, and response coordination.

• Ensure that internal stakeholders are prepared for and informed about regulatory expectations.

Challenge & Culture

• Constructively challenge business practices and decisions where regulatory risk is present.

• Champion a culture of ethics, compliance, and accountability across the Group.

• Provide clear and commercially grounded compliance advice on strategic initiatives, product design, and operational change.

People Leadership

• Coach and develop regional compliance leaders, building succession and capability across the function.

• Promote collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement within the compliance community.

• Support the integration of compliance functions following mergers, acquisitions, or structural changes.

Key Requirements:

• 10+ years’ experience in compliance roles within regulated financial services, ideally insurance.

• Expertise in regulatory frameworks in at least Bermuda (BMA) and ideally, UK or Europe.

• Proven leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and challenge at senior levels.

• Experience interacting with regulators and managing complex compliance programmes across multiple legal entities.

• Familiarity with AML/ATF regimes, conduct risk, prudential standards, and outsourcing obligations.

Qualifications & Attributes:

• Bachelor’s degree.

• Professional compliance qualification (e.g., ICA, ACAMS).

• Strong integrity, independent thinking, and sound judgment.

• Excellent communication skills — able to distill complex issues into clear guidance.

• Proactive, collaborative, and resilient leader with a global mindset.
