As our Assistant Controller, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our financial operations run as smoothly as we continue to grow. You’ll oversee the day-to-day accounting team and drive a timely, accurate month-end close process that supports our mission to protect communities and empower our workforce.
Job Duties:
- Supervise and support the accounting team in daily operations activities.
- Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback to team members.
- Ensure tasks are completed accurately and on time, maintaining a high standard of financial integrity.
- Act as a point of escalation for accounting-related issues and inquiries.
- Lead the full-cycle month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.
- Analyze financial results and variances, providing insights to senior leadership.
- Coordinate with other departments to gather necessary data and resolve discrepancies.
- Assist in preparing internal financial statements and management reports.
- Maintain and improve internal controls to ensure compliance with ASPE and company policies.
- Support external audits and liaise with auditors to provide required documentation.
- Ensure proper documentation and retention of financial records.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA designation preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including team leadership.
- Strong understanding of ASPE and financial reporting.
- Proven ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.
- Experience and a passion for continuous improvement.
- Experience in a multi-site business would be a considerable asset.
