Atlantic Explosives Limited (AEL) is an exclusive distributor of Orica products. Orica is a global leader in the commercial explosives industry. As a distributor, AEL has access to Orica’s innovative blasting solutions and quality explosives products throughout North America.

On behalf of our client, we are currently recruiting for a Technical Field Representative Manager to join their team of dedicated professionals in Upper Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia, or Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland.

In this role you will be a technical expert to support blasting operations and projects to clients located across the region in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Focusing on product application, field-based client support, project execution, and technical support, this role acts as the project manager in the field for many of the Atlantic Explosives solution offerings and offers long-term growth in the explosives industry, supporting surface and underground mining operations, as well as quarry and construction projects. The successful candidate will develop and maintain customer relationships, in support of commercial and operations teams, as a subject matter expert to provide recommendations for best practices and applications supported by measurement of key metrics. Collaboration across teams to determine the best path for customer satisfaction and effective resolution during execution of defined projects and continuous improvement efforts will be key to success in the role.

Responsibilities:
 
  • Demonstrate and/or lead the commitment to the pursuit of achieving Zero Harm through behavioral based safety.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Company HSE Performance Standards, as well as applicable acts and regulations.
  • Position will be responsible for delivering on Orica solutions offerings. Technical solutions require project scoping, measurement of KPI’s and execution of recommendations.
  • Demonstrate Orica products and services at current and potential customer sites.
  • Knowledge of regional industry and operations to identify new system applications/ opportunities to deliver customer value added proposition.
  • Identify opportunities for the Orica’s newest technologies.
  • Position will be responsible for managing projects and documenting success of design, application, and/or product changes in the field.
  • Utilize tools and technology to complete face profiles, borehole deviation measurements, blast geometry measurements, product sampling, safety audits, etc. in support of product application and blast improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct blast performance measurements, e.g. digital high-speed video, vibration monitoring, velocity of detonation, dynamic pressure, etc. in support of product application and blast improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct post blast assessments, etc. fragmentation measurement, time studies, volumetric measurements, blast reporting & documentation.
  • Conduct time studies on personnel and equipment throughout an operation, including drill and blast operations, truck-shovel loading, processing, etc.
  • Effectively build and present proposals and reports, internally and externally.

Qualifications: 


As the ideal candidate, you possess a minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in mining, explosives or related industry, with progressively increasing professional responsibility. With a background in mining, construction, quarry, or blasting you are interested in long-term professional growth in the field of explosive supply and services. General knowledge or understanding of explosives technology, basic geology, and seismology is essential. With exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, you demonstrate a high level of professionalism and self-direction and possess a strong track record of building positive relationships with co-workers and/or clients. Technically skilled with the ability to use new hardware and software programs focused on blasting performance and design, along with experience in using current instrumentation and software prevalent in the industry for advanced blasting design will be key to success in the role. A bachelor’s degree in mining, geo-technical, mineral, geological engineering and/or civil engineering, will be preferred, however relevant experience in the mining industry along with advanced technical knowledge may be substituted for formal degree. A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel is required.
