Meridia Recruitment Solutions has partnered with IESO Nova Scotia to recruit an experienced and motivated Regulatory Director to join their senior leadership team in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

IESO Nova Scotia is a new organization being created by the Nova Scotia Government to be operational in 2025. IESO Nova Scotia will reform the way Nova Scotia’s energy system is managed by assuming responsibility for managing the power system in real-time, achieving clean energy goals and planning for the province's future energy needs. We are looking to bring an experienced and motivated Regulatory Director to their team here in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The Regulatory Director will lead the organization’s engagement with energy regulators, shape its revenue model, and support executive leadership through regulatory reviews and hearings. This role is critical to ensuring IESO-NS’s operations align with provincial regulatory frameworks and public accountability.

Your Responsibilities:

• Develop and execute IESO-NS’s regulatory strategy in alignment with its mission of competition and decarbonization.
• Lead the development of corporate regulatory policies and ensure alignment with provincial and federal energy regulations.
• Advise the CEO and executive team on regulatory risks, opportunities, and strategic positioning.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory codes, rules, and standards, including those set by the Nova Scotia Energy Board.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with regulatory agencies, government bodies, and external stakeholders.
• Represent IESO-NS in regulatory proceedings, consultations, and hearings.
• Prepare executives for evidentiary hearings and regulatory reviews, including briefing materials and testimony support.
• Develop internal regulatory processes and documentation standards.
• Monitor industry developments and regulatory changes, providing timely analysis and recommendations.
• Drive continuous improvement in regulatory operations, leveraging technology and best practices.
• Work closely with legal, commercial, finance, policy, and operations and engineering teams to ensure regulatory alignment across all organizational activities.
• Contribute to strategic planning and organizational development to support IESO-NS’s leadership team.


Your Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in law, public policy, economics, or a related field. A law degree is preferred.
• Minimum 5–7 years of post-call legal or regulatory experience in the energy sector, utilities, or government.
• Proven experience working with energy regulators (e.g. provincial/federal bodies).
• Strong understanding of energy regulation, rate-setting, and utility oversight.
• Demonstrated success in preparing and defending regulatory applications and filings.
• Excellent communication, analytical, and strategic thinking skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively across teams and with senior stakeholders.
