IESO Nova Scotia is a new organization being created by the Nova Scotia Government to be operational in 2025. IESO Nova Scotia will reform the way Nova Scotia’s energy system is managed by assuming responsibility for managing the power system in real-time, achieving clean energy goals and planning for the province's future energy needs. We are looking to bring an experienced and motivated Director of Finance to their senior leadership team here in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The Director of Finance plays a critical leadership role as part of the organization’s leadership team and in overseeing the financial, planning, and operations of IESO Nova Scotia. This position will require a hands on approach and will be accountability for ensuring financial integrity, cash management, financial controls and compliance, budgeting process and building a culture of cost discipline, regular management, board and regulatory reporting, year-end and audit processes, and supporting the regulatory filing and recovery process in order to contribute to strategic alignment with the organization's mission to maintain a reliable, sustainable, and efficient energy system.

The Director of Finance plays a critical leadership role as part of the organization’s leadership team and in overseeing the financial, planning, and operations of IESO Nova Scotia. The Director of Finance will be responsible for:
- As an enterprise leader working with the CEO and senior team to set the priorities for the organization, lead by example and shape the culture of the organization.
- Collaborative work with the CEO and senior team to develop long-term financial strategies aligned with IESO’s operational and regulatory goals.
- Develop, implement and monitor financial policies, processes, and controls to execute on the financial strategy
- Advise executive leadership on financial planning, reporting, budget and cash management, and risk management, and decisions.
- Secure and optimize necessary financing to manage cash needs.
- Support and contribute to the development of financial modeling and scenario analysis to support system planning, market development and other projects as necessary.
- Oversee the development of annual budgets and multi-year forecasts.
- Monitor financial performance and provide variance analysis and recommendations.
- Ensure alignment of financial resources with strategic initiatives and regulatory (rate filings and financial compliance).
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, and reporting requirements.
- Liaise with financial regulatory bodies, auditors, and relevant stakeholders to maintain transparency and accountability.
- Manage and optimize any foreign currency exposure.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements and reports.
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls and financial systems.
- Lead and mentor a finance team responsible for accounting, treasury, and financial reporting, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Promote an organizational culture of cross-functional collaboration, inclusion, and accountability.
- Lead and actively participate in fostering a high-performing, inclusive enterprise organizational culture grounded in collaboration, accountability, safety, and excellence.
- Recruit, build, and develop a dynamic and diverse team, and coach and support them to reach their individual potential and drive organizational success.
The ideal candidate will have:
- CPA designation (or recognized equivalent) is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- Minimum eight years of progressive financial leadership experience.
- Experience in energy, utilities, or regulated industries would be an asset
- Proven ability to lead strategic initiatives and manage all aspects of financial operations.
- Strong communication, business acumen, analytical, detail orientation, and skill within a fast-paced, agile team environment.
