IESO Nova Scotia is a new organization being created by the Nova Scotia Government to be operational in 2025. IESO Nova Scotia will reform the way Nova Scotia’s energy system is managed by assuming responsibility for managing the power system in real-time, achieving clean energy goals and planning for the province's future energy needs. We are looking to bring an experienced and motivated Director of Information Technology (IT) to their senior leadership team here in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

We are seeking a visionary and strategic Director of IT to lead the development and implementation of our organization's IT/OT framework from the ground up. This is a build role, ideal for a dynamic leader who thrives in greenfield environments and is passionate about shaping the future of technology within  an organization.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and executing IT/OT policies, governance structures, management and operational systems with a strong emphasis on cybersecurity, data management, and Internet of Things (IoT) integration. This role requires exceptional communication skills and the ability to engage and present to executive leadership and board members.

The Director of IT will be responsible for:

IT Strategy & Architecture
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive IT/OT strategy aligned with organizational capabilities and goals.
  • Build scalable, integrated and secure IT infrastructure, systems, and processes from the ground up.
  • Establish IT/OT governance, policies, controls, standards and procedures to ensure system integrity, compliance and operational excellence.
Cybersecurity & Risk Management
  • Lead the development of cybersecurity policies, procedure and standards leveraging industry best practice frameworks and incident response protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards (e.g., NIST, ISO, PCI, SOX).
  • Oversee risk assessments and required mitigation plans, vulnerability management, and security awareness initiatives.
  • Standup a right sized, robust and scalable network monitoring solution to enable real-time visibility to external threats and vulnerabilities for both IT and OT.
Data & IoT Integration
  • Design and implement data governance and analytics frameworks.
  • Drive IoT strategy and integration across the organization to enhance operational efficiency. 
  • Ensure secure and efficient data flow across platforms and devices.
  • Implement strategies and controls to mitigate data loss and data privacy risks
Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
  • As an enterprise leader working with the CEO and senior team to set the priorities for the organization, lead by example and shape the culture of the organization.
  • Build and lead a high-performing IT/OT team.
  • Promote an organizational culture of cross-functional collaboration, inclusion, and accountability. 
  • Lead and actively participate in fostering a high-performing, inclusive enterprise organizational culture grounded in collaboration, accountability, safety, and excellence. 
  • Recruit, build, and develop a dynamic and diverse team, and coach and support them to reach their individual potential and drive organizational success. 
  • Present IT/OT strategy, performance, and risk posture to board members and senior stakeholders.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Proven experience in Assessing and leveraging proven, industry IT/OT frameworks and leading enterprise-level IT discipline ensure secure and integrated technology enablement.
  • Strong expertise in cybersecurity, data governance, and IoT technologies.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with experience engaging board-level stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing teams and driving change.
  • Minimum ten years of progressive Information Technology leadership experience.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, PMP, TOGAF) are an asset.
