Meridia is happy to partner with K&R in their search for a Quality Manager to join their team in Port Saxon, conveniently located within a 50-minute drive from Yarmouth and 25 minutes from Shelburne, making it accessible for candidates across Nova Scotia’s beautiful South Shore.

Role Description
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Quality Manager will oversee the daily functions of K&R’s quality program, ensuring that operations meet internal standards, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations. A key focus of this role will be obtaining FSC22000 certification while maintaining and continuously improving the company’s established ISO quality and safety programs.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Maintaining and supporting ISO 9001:2015 Quality Certification and ISO 45001 Safety Certification
  • Managing and supporting MSC Certification and the Health Canada site licence
  • Maintaining and updating an established Quality Program based on HACCP and cGMP
  • Maintaining controls and revising departmental Standard Operating Manuals and Production forms
  • Liaising with CFIA and customers on all quality matters, ensuring effective communication and resolution of issues
  • Performing internal plant audits and inspections to ensure adherence to quality standards
  • Ensuring plant operations comply with the Quality Program, Safe Food for Canadians Act, EU Regulations, Kosher, Halal, and ISO requirements
  • Driving a culture of continuous improvement, quality awareness, and operational excellence across the plant

Your Qualifications
With a foundation of experience in quality and regulatory management, you are skilled at building and maintaining systems that meet rigorous standards while supporting day-to-day operations. You are adaptable, able to navigate change with confidence, and bring the organizational and communication skills needed to work effectively with colleagues, regulators, and customers. Your experience has shaped you into someone who develops and motivates teams, builds a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, and communicates effectively across all levels of an organization. You are highly organized and analytical, and you balance attention to detail with the ability to see the bigger picture.

Your qualifications include:
  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field, preferably in a quality-related program
  • Experience with ISO Quality and Safety programs
  • Formal training in Quality Management Systems (QMS), Continuous Quality Improvement, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Food Safety (HACCP), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) are all considered an asset
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate employees
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain focus on critical quality objectives
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization
