Nautel Sonar is a specialized division within Nautel Ltd., which excels in designing, developing, and manufacturing cutting-edge sonar and sonar sub-systems. At Nautel Sonar, they provide a comprehensive range of OEM sonar products as well as complete "wet end" sonar sub-systems. Their clientele range from international defense entities to non-defense customers.

Role Description
Within this specialized division, the Sonar Engineer will play a critical role in the design, development, and implementation of advanced sonar systems for underwater applications. You will be part of a talented engineering team responsible for creating cutting-edge technology solutions to meet the demands of the marine defense and research sectors. Your expertise in sonar systems and extensive engineering experience will contribute to the success of projects and ensure the highest level of performance and innovation.

Role Description
Within this specialized division, the Sonar Engineer will play a critical role in the design, development, and implementation of advanced sonar systems for underwater applications. You will be part of a talented engineering team responsible for creating cutting-edge technology solutions to meet the demands of the marine defense and research sectors. Your expertise in sonar systems and extensive engineering experience will contribute to the success of projects and ensure the highest level of performance and innovation.
Your responsibilities will include:
- System Design and Development: Contribute to the design and development of sonar systems, including transducers, signal processing, acoustic modeling, power electronics, filtering matching, and communication interfaces. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sonar technology into larger systems.
- Technical Expertise: Serve as the subject matter expert in sonar technology, providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. Stay updated with industry trends, advancements, and best practices to drive continuous improvement in our products.
- System Integration: Ensure seamless integration of sonar systems with existing platforms and infrastructure. Work closely with software and hardware teams to optimize system performance and enhance overall functionality: developing hardware and software specifications as well as verification and validation documents.
- Customization and Adaptation: Develop custom interfacing elements to adapt existing products for new applications and refit opportunities.
- Defense Documentation: Contribute to, and review, industry standard documentation as part of the product development and program execution.
- Testing and Validation: Develop and execute comprehensive testing and validation procedures to assess sonar system performance and accuracy. Analyze test results and identify areas for improvement, making necessary adjustments to achieve optimal outcomes.
- Sales Support: Work with the sales team to develop innovative, cost effective and competitive responses to various sales inquiries. Contribute to pre-sales communication, requirements negotiation, and Request for Proposal or Quote (RFP/RFQ) Responses for new and upgraded sonar system and sub-system components.
- Production Support: Work with Production and Quality teams to ensure high quality and cost- effective production of sonar systems and sub-system components.
- Team Collaboration: Contribute to sonar engineering projects, ensuring adherence to system requirements, timelines, budgets, and quality standards, and communicate technical concepts effectively.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including acoustics experts, electrical engineers, software developers, and project managers as well as other internal stakeholders such as Sales, Customer Service, and Operations, to create robust and reliable sonar solutions.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to continuous improvement efforts regarding key Engineering processes and activities.
- Troubleshooting and Support: Provide technical support to resolve any issues related to sonar systems in operational deployments or during testing phases.
- Compliance and Regulations: Ensure that all sonar systems adhere to industry standards, regulations, and safety guidelines.
Your Qualifications
- A Bachelor's or Master’s degree in electrical engineering, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of power electronics, acoustics, signal processing, and acoustic modeling techniques.
- Experienced in pulsed energy storage and delivery systems.
- Strong background in Systems Engineering practices and processes.
- Strong understanding of New Product Introduction Processes.
- Experienced in Defense Procurement methods.
- Proficiency in using industry-standard tools for system design and analysis.
- Experience with modern serial communication protocols and integration with other marine systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Understanding of relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety guidelines for military and maritime systems; including key military qualification standards, such as Shock and Vibration, Environmental Effects, and Electromagnetic Compatibility.
- Experience designing, developing, and testing sonar systems for underwater applications would be a definite asset;
- Ability to be immediately cleared for Controlled Goods is a requirement of this role.
