Role Description
As the Senior Engineer/Director of Engineering, specializing in development project management, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive site evaluations and analyses to identify potential constraints and challenges for development projects. You'll collaborate with internal teams and external experts to plan and design critical infrastructure elements like roads, utilities, drainage systems, and landscaping. Your expertise in civil engineering will benefit you in crafting innovative subdivision layouts and navigating the approval process. Your exceptional communication skills will benefit you in coordinating with government agencies and review boards. Managing multiple projects concurrently, you'll prepare schedules, budgets, and progress reports, and support junior staff involved in the projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Site Analysis
- Conduct thorough site evaluations, analyzing topographic surveys, soil assessments, and environmental impact studies, to identify any potential constraints or challenges that may impact the development projects.
- Infrastructure Planning
- Collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to plan and design essential infrastructure components, such as roads, sidewalks, utilities (water, sewer, stormwater), drainage systems, and landscaping.
- Subdivision Design
- Utilize your expertise in civil engineering principles to develop innovative and practical subdivision layouts that optimize land use, infrastructure development, and business needs. Manage the sub-division approval process, coordinating with local authorities and obtaining required permits and approvals.
- Compliance with Regulations
- Stay current with local regulations and ensure that all designs comply with these requirements. Coordinate with government agencies, review boards, and other stakeholders to obtain necessary approvals and permits. A specific focus on compliance with environmental impact assessments and other relevant environmental regulations.
- Project Management
- Effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Prepare project schedules, budgets, and progress reports, and support the work of junior staff involved in project(s).
- Cost Estimation
- Conduct comprehensive cost estimations by analyzing project requirements, materials, labor, and equipment costs.
- Prepare detailed cost breakdowns and budgets for the project, including a breakdown of anticipated expenses phased projects.
- Specifications
- Develop project specifications that outline the technical requirements, materials, and quality standards for construction. Ensure that specifications comply with industry standards, regulations, and client expectations.
- Review and update specifications as necessary throughout the project lifecycle.
- Contract Documents
- Prepare and review contract documents, including agreements, scopes of work, and terms and conditions.
- Ensure that contract documents are accurate, comprehensive, and align with project requirements.
- Monitor and oversee the execution of contracts, ensuring that all parties fulfill their obligations.
- Inspection
- Conduct regular site visits and inspections to verify compliance with design specifications and quality standards.
- Continuous Learning
- Stay abreast of industry advancements, emerging technologies, and best practices in municipal design and layout.
- Participate in professional development activities, attend seminars, and seek opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 Years Municipal/Civil Engineer experience, with a focus on subdivision layout, road design, service design, and development projects.
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or related field; a Masters degree would be an asset.
- On path for registration or currently registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada.
- Proven understanding of zoning and subdivision regulations.
- Proven project management and technical skills.
- Experience with software like AutoCAD, Civil 3D is considered an asset.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
