They have grown by providing excellent service to clients in both the petroleum and chemical industries. The Seaboard Transport Group is part of a group of companies spanning diverse industries and employing close to 10,000 people in the Atlantic Canada region. We are pleased to be partnered with them to bring a Corporate Controller to their team in Dartmouth, NS.


The Corporate Controller will manage a broad scope of functional areas including internal financial reporting, treasury, cash application, balance sheet management and transformational initiatives and other accountabilities. The Corporate Controller will:

 

  • Lead the corporate accounting team to ensure completeness and accuracy of information, reporting and drive continuous improvement while developing individuals to advance in their skill set and careers.
  • Responsible for maintaining a positive engaged workplace.
  • Responsible for the corporate accounting functions and leading the corporate accounting team.
  • Responsible for preparation of corporate and overhead budgets in coordination with management and reporting key metrics.
  • Lead for annual audit of financial statements.
  • Administration responsibility for Great Plains GL structure and reporting application.
  • Responsible for the accuracy, completeness and timely distribution of the monthly consolidated financial statements and interpreting and reporting the financial information and results.
  • Reporting consolidated results and analysis to parent company.
  • Capital reporting and accounting management.
  • Ensure completion and review of balance sheet account reconciliation.
  • Daily banking activities; cash flow reporting and projections; and credit card program.
  • Reporting requirements for internal and external needs.
  • Claims accounting and reporting; subsidy management and accounting.
  • Responsible for continuous improvement and process optimization of the corporate finance function through innovation, technology, or process improvement.
  • Work closely with management and leadership to provide support for analysis, special projects and financial projections.
  • Special Projects and Other Significant Responsibilities and other duties as required.


The ideal candidate will have:

 

  • CPA designation.
  • 5-8 years of finance and accounting experience.
  • Experience with consolidation accounting and reporting.
  • 3 years of experience managing a team and proven ability to manage a team.
  • Strong background in change management and process improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Proven ability to deal proactively and professionally with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required and a high level of self-motivation and energy.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience with Great Plains is considered an asset.
  • Experience in the transportation industry is considered an asset.
