Job Title: Maintenance Manager
Location: Kensington, PEI

Indian River Farms (IRF) operates a potato and barley farm located in the Kensington area of Prince Edward Island. Their machinery includes top-of-the-line tractors, heavy duty potato hauling trucks, and various other pieces of farm equipment, as well as a brand-new repair shop onsite. As operations continue to grow, IRF has partnered with Meridia in search of a Maintenance Manager to join them in Kensington.

Role Description

As the Maintenance Manager, you will lead, train, support, and develop team members as they organize, prioritize, and complete maintenance duties across the farm both in the maintenance shop and the field. You will ensure team members are timely with the completion of projects and day-to-day tasks to help meet the overall farm goals. Managing the maintenance budget and planning the off-season repairs will be a large part of your role. While hands-on maintenance will not be the bulk of your work, it may be required based on the challenges of the day.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading, training, supporting, and developing maintenance employees as they perform routine inspections and service of company owned equipment
  • Assuring parts needed for repair work are ordered in a timely manner and within budget
  • Conducting routine follow up and communication with management, farm teams, and site leaders
  • Promoting and following safe and secure working habits
  • Creating short- and long-term plans, goals, and priorities
  • Ensuring all attendance paperwork is turned in on time
  • Creating and executing effective preventative maintenance plans
  • Other duties as directed by management

Your Qualifications

With a wealth of knowledge in maintenance, you understand the technical, hands-on aspects as well as the management and planning that goes into a successful maintenance program. You are a strong people leader with a history of providing training and mentorship. Your communication skills are excellent and you have a proven ability to build relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders, including senior-level management. Farm experience or exposure is considered an asset, or similar experience in a seasonal work environment. Additionally, you have a proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office and preventative maintenance software.

Your qualifications include:

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required, secondary education in a related field is an asset
  • Valid driver’s license (class 3 license is considered an asset, or willing to train)
  • Red seal designation would be considered a valuable asset
  • Ability to reach, bend, twist, and stand for extended periods of time
  • Team oriented, detail oriented, and self-motivated
  • Good computer skills (Microsoft office products, maintenance management systems)
  • Ability to work under time constraints
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot and prioritize
  • Ability to work over 40 hours a week if necessary during peak times, including occasional weekend and evening work
  • Willingness to learn new skills as needed
  • Intermediate understanding of electricity and electrical components, mechanical components, and motor vehicle components are all assets
  • Must be able to communicate with leads, farm employees, and supervisors

Salary: Upwards of $70,000 per year based on the level of relevant experience, education, training, etc.
