Meridia Recruitment Solutions has partnered with BF&M, a leading insurance provider with operations in Bermuda, Halifax and across the Caribbean, to recruit for their Pension Administrator in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Role Description:


Reporting to the Pensions Operations Manager, this position is responsible for providing effective and efficient administration of group pension plans.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Enroll new members in plans
  • Process any plan or member changes
  • Process employer and member remittances
  • Balance receipts with contribution breakdowns
  • Process policy terminations, fund transfers and withdrawals
  • Archive all related documents
  • Process AML and FATCA related documentation for all necessary transactions
  • Ensure all forms received are complete and accurate before entered into the system
  • Assist Customer Care team with responding to client queries in a timely and professional manner, including:
    • Member Statements
    • Analysis of financial data from system (e.g. investment returns, outstanding contributions);
    • Analysis of surplus accounts;
    • Explanation of investment returns and member statements;
    • Explanation of internal process and turnaround times;
    • Explanation of Pension Act rules and how they apply to the client
  • Complete all transactions within stated service level standards
  • Utilize Ticketing system to track workflow
  • Collect, review, and process AML/FATCA documents
  • Keep the transaction log up to date for all pending transactions
  • Assist with any special projects as requested
  • Assist team to cover for holidays or other leaves

Your Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education with a major in Business preferred, or the equivalent knowledge gained through a combination of education and experience
  • 2-3 years’ experience in a similar role, such as in financial services, mutual fund administration, or insurance is an asset, however recent graduates will be considered
  • Knowledge of AML and/or FATCA would be considered an asset
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to handle confidential issues
  • Good analytical skills and attention to detail across multiple systems
  • Client-centric service philosophy with a strong focus on quality
  • Be team oriented and collaborative
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage time during peak volume periods in a fast-paced environment
