The Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia is a registered charity that works to increase financial support to community initiatives throughout Nova Scotia while providing hope and eradicating the stigma around mental illness and addiction. They do this by providing funding to mental health programs and services through grants. Their mission is to make a difference in the lives of Nova Scotians by funding mental health and addiction initiatives. They care. They enable. They are accountable. On behalf of our client, we are currently recruiting for a Director of Development to join their team of dedicated professionals in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

 

Reporting to and in partnership with the President & CEO, the Director of Development will spearhead development efforts as the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia continues to grow. A new position in the organization, the Director of Development will have the opportunity to shape the fund development function including developing and executing an annual fundraising plan that is aligned with the Foundation’s strategy and values. The Director of Development will secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations through active donor cultivation and stewardship. The successful candidate must be adaptable, creative, organized and a natural leader and relationship builder. They must be willing to work as part of a team to ensure the success of all campaigns, fundraisers, and awareness opportunities.

 

Responsibilities:

 

• Develop and execute annual fund development plan
• Research, identify, maintain, and grow relationships and partnerships with donors
• Secure sponsorships and draft agreements for Signature Events
• Create and execute revenue development strategies to grow Named Grants, Planned Giving and Lapsed Donors

• Direct and advise the Donor Relations & Research Coordinator
• Lead the Strategic Partnerships & Fund Development Committee
• Participate in all key Foundation events

 

Qualifications:

 

• Degree or diploma in related field or equivalent experience as a fundraising professional
• Five to ten years of experience in development, with experience leading a team
• Experience in charities/not-for-profits and working with volunteers
• Sustainable giving track record with a strong corporate fundraising portfolio
• Knowledge of community engagement, revenue development and trends in philanthropy
• Raiser’s Edge experience is an asset
• Proficient computer, research and internet skills
• Relationship focused and adaptable; willing to adjust to others’ styles to work through what needs to be done
• Self-motivated, ability to work independently and with a dynamic team, passion for improving the lives of Nova Scotians living with mental illness and addiction
• Flexibility is required (ability to work evenings/weekends and to travel)
• Outstanding interpersonal and oral/written communication and public speaking skills
