The Association of Seafood Producers (ASP) is a not-for-profit corporation that plays an integral role representing seafood producers from the cold, clear waters of Newfoundland and Labrador. Some of the world’s finest seafood comes from this beautiful spot in the north Atlantic. Producers source from sustainable fisheries and work hard to maintain the high-quality expected in premium international markets. Most of their production value and volume come from MSC certified fisheries.

Striving to promote a positive image in the industry, ASP works to provide effective input into policy decisions and regulatory matters as well as participate in programs that directly benefit the whole industry. Its current members operate over 40 processing plants in rural communities that provide employment for thousands of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians.

On behalf of our partner, Association of Seafood Producers, we are seeking a Manager, Policy, Markets & Negotiations, to join their team. In this role, you will work to strengthen relationships in the industry with local fisheries and negotiate on behalf of ASP to achieve the best possible outcome for all stakeholders. With the goal of making the industry more sustainable, this position will lead the way on influencing policies and regulations that will have a lasting impact on the future of the fisheries and healthy seafood options.

In this role, your strategically-focused business knowledge around international trade is paramount to conducting analysis and research on market, legal and trade issues on fish species, pricing and quotas that influence negotiations and legislation. This is a highly visible role within the industry that plays an active part in protecting and growing one of NL’s greatest resources, its fisheries, to bring high quality, healthy protein to markets around the world.

Key Qualifications/Skills:
• Effective and skilled communicator, both written and verbal, who can persuade different audiences with compelling arguments.
• Background in business and resources management are an asset.
• 3+ years’ experience policy development with strong research, analytical and problem-solving skills; demonstrated ability to interpret and apply legislation and policies.
• 3+ years’ experience in high-level negotiations, arbitrations, dispute resolution, collective bargaining preferred.
• Experience in the NL fishery industry (ie. fishing, sourcing, producing, etc.) an asset.
• Strong computer skills including Excel or Numbers.
• Available for intense periods during the high season, from March to September.
