Nunatsiavut Group of Companies (NGC) is the business arm of the Nunatsiavut Government. Reporting to the Labrador Inuit Capital Strategy Trust, NGC’s Mission is to create wealth in trust for Nunatsiavut Beneficiaries by owning profitable, sustainable businesses. It’s business lines include marine transportation, air transportation, commercial real estate, construction, remote camp operations, logistics, and heavy civil. NGC has fully-owned businesses and also is a partner in several ventures through majority and minority ownership positions. NGC brings capacity and expertise to projects in Labrador and beyond.
On their behalf we are seeking a Human Resources Manager, based in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL, to play a key and essential function within this exciting and vibrant organization.
Reporting to the President/CEO, and in cooperation with the senior management team, the Human Resources Manager will provide HR services in support of NGC’s mission and objectives. Responsible for recruitment, selection, employee relations, benefit and salary administration, training and development, Inuit Beneficiary engagement as well as aspects of occupational health and safety. The Human Resources Manager will act as the primary HR point of contact and expert for all the Nunatsiavut Group of Companies. With a strong focus on engagement and retention, the Human Resources Manager will coach, consult and advise the Nunatsiavut Group of Companies’ employees and management enabling them to reach their full potential.
We seek a candidate who is energized and passionate about the influence that human resources can and will have on a thriving and growing company. This will be demonstrated through the completion of a relevant post secondary university degree or college diploma; a focus on Human Resources is preferred. This education will be complimented by five years in a role focused as a human resources business partner, generalist and/or advisor. Managerial experience and relevant work within a diverse, multi-location company would be preferred. Completion of, or progress towards, a CHRP (Certified Human Resource Professional) designation will be considered an asset.
Employing a strategic mindset and always striving to improve processes for employee relations and engagement, the Human Resources Manager will have experience supporting senior leadership and be able to build rapport quickly with key members of the executive team. Confident in directing HR and advising managers on all aspects of people management and development you are a capable team member able to work across all levels of the organization effectively. Skilled at prioritizing work and managing multiple demands, you have strong communication skills, including the ability to listen actively and respond verbally in a manner that is clear and respectful, and prepare written communications that are clear and concise.
Vital to this function is knowledge of Aboriginal Cultures prevalent in Newfoundland and Labrador, in particular, Labrador Inuit Culture and a demonstrated ability to manage all kinds and classes of people equitably. A champion in supporting equal and fair treatment and opportunity for all.
