Meridia has partnered with Waypoint Center for Mental Health Care to exclusively support on two Nurse Practitioner (NP) positions with acute care experience as a RN or NP in an inpatient hospital setting.
Waypoint Center for Mental Health Care is committed to providing excellence in specialized mental health and addiction services grounded in research and education. This hospital’s long heritage as a leader in the treatment of mental illness is currently sustained by 1200 employees, including physicians, nurse practitioners and health care workers, from a wide range of disciplines as well as about 80 dedicated volunteers. The Vice President of Patient Experience: CNE is currently seeking two full time Nurse Practitioners with experience in acute care to support within Waypoint’s inpatient programs.
As a primary health care lead in a clinical setting, the NP is accountable for providing comprehensive primary health care which will include assessments, diagnoses, counseling, screening, referral, education, treatment and follow- up. Consultation could involve patients and their families in identifying risk factors and health problems, and support in goal setting and interventions for disease, treatment, prevention and health promotion. The NP will assess needs and accordingly order laboratory, diagnostic tests, x-rays and ultrasounds; interpret results and consult with physicians when required. They will keep records of patient interactions to ensure other practitioners and providers are informed about the patient’s treatment plan and ensure continuity of care. The NP will provide primary healthcare oversight for their assigned patient groups, leading the inter-professional team in patient treatment plans with a strong emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention. The NP will provide leadership to other clinicians to ensure consistent care, management, referrals and information. In this role the NP will participate in development and evaluation of policies, protocols and procedures to improve patient care. The NP will represent NPs on the NAC, rounds, PSA and other committees as required. Additionally the NP will engage and support in clinical research/evaluation related activities and will perform tasks in a manner which complies with all hospital policies, procedures and legislation.
As the ideal candidate you will have completed a recognized Nurse Practitioner Program, Master of Nursing or related graduate degree with a clinical focus and be registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario. In this role you will develop protocols and procedures, and provide mentorship to other health care providers around designated high need areas of care including diabetes management, wound management, palliative care and geriatric care. Experience in mental health care as well as general and psychiatric nursing theory/practice, principles, interventions, medications and symptoms to enable in health promotion and disease prevention methods would be considered an asset.
