We are excited to partner with SMU in the search for a Senior Financial Analyst to join their growing financial planning and analysis (FP&A) Team. Under the direction of the Director, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), the Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for providing administrative and oversight specific to the University financial reporting tool (Vena).

Additional key responsibilities include:

  • Building hierarchies, workflows, task binding, etc.
  • Developing and maintaining role-based security authorizations and communicate changes and upgrades to team and university community as needs.
  • Acting as a Financial Reporting tool Subject Matter Expert (SME) and providing coaching and training as required specific to the tool and ensuring that the ERP system (Banner Finance) and financial reporting tool are in balance.
  • Developing and maintaining the annual budget and reporting templates for SMU and its departments for the following funds: operating and internally restricted reserves, capital and special projects.
  • Working with the Budget Owners as assigned to draft, version multiple revisions of the budgets and lead forecast into Vena.
  • Developing and maintaining the quarterly/monthly forecast templates for SMU and its departments for the following funds: operating and internally restricted reserves, capital and special projects.
  • Working with Budget Owners as assigned to draft, version and load forecast into Vena.
  • Responsible for building, managing and improving financial reporting templates, KPI reports and ad hoc reports.
  • Providing monthly/quarterly and annual budget and cost variance analyses for senior finance management and academic Budget Owners and Department Chairs.
  • Acting as a continuous improvement champion for the department and the University as support to the Director, FP&A and individually.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Undergraduate degree in Commerce or Business Administration plus a Certified Professional Accounting (CPA) designation.
  • Two (2) to three (3) years’ directly related experience.
  • Understanding of current accounting policies and practices, including accounting for not-for-profit organizations.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial, fund and managerial accounting, financial systems, internal controls, financial analysis, and reporting is required.
  • Demonstrated progressive leadership experience including engaging staff in a collaborative and cohesive spirit in order to attain desired results.
  • Above average interpersonal, oral and written communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software and advanced skills in Excel.
