Meridia has partnered with a diverse, mid-sized Ottawa law firm looking for a Legal Assistant/Law Clerk with civil litigation experience to work in their Ottawa office. The ideal candidate will have seven (7) plus years of relevant work
experience in the civil litigation area.

Role Description

 

  • Opening, maintaining client files, and closing files;
  • Prepare Affidavit of Documents, Notices, Brief, Pleadings, and assembly of documents in hard copy and electronic format;
  • Filing of court documents;
  • Preparing correspondence for professional’s approval/signature, memos to file and file updates;
  • Manage and keep up to date client file deadlines, court dates, limitation periods in BF system;
  • Maintain lawyers’ calendars and scheduling of appointments, for in person and via web meetings;
  • Communication with clients (by phone, e-mail, etc.);
  • Docketing, preparation and delivery of invoices, collection of ARs;
  • Transcription;
  • Faxing, photocopying, scanning; and
  • Other duties as required.

 

Your Qualifications

 

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience working in civil litigation;
  • Knowledge of Rules of Civil Procedures;
  • Legal assistant/Law Clerk diploma/certificate an asset;
  • A combination of education, training and experience will also be considered;
  • "Must have" advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, with excellent keyboarding and grammar skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while paying attention to detail;
  • Must be extremely organized and be comfortable working with electronic documents;
  • Working knowledge ACL and Ghost Practice would be an asset;
  • Able to speak in both English and French would be a strong asset.
