Discover Halifax is the regional destination marketing organization responsible for overseeing the growth of the visitation economy in Halifax, Nova Scotia. It was created in April 2002 by a merger of the Greater Halifax Conventions & Meetings Bureau and the tourism marketing arm of the Halifax Regional Municipality Tourism, Culture & Heritage Department. Governed by an independent Board of Directors and funded by its core partners and a hotel marketing levy, the organization promotes the Halifax region as a year-round destination of choice for business and leisure travelers.


On behalf of our client, we are currently recruiting for a Director of Communications to join their team of dedicated professionals in Halifax, Nova Scotia.


Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Communications will develop strategic communication materials and manage recurring communications channels. The successful candidate will be responsible to generate content for web, social media, speeches, presentations, stakeholder reports, public updates and other communications tools, as required. The Director of Communications will also provide communication and operational support for the advancement of the Halifax Region Integrated Tourism Master Plan. This will include progress reporting on the plan, including corporate KPIs and reporting, as well as strategic communications for the organization. The Director of Communications will also support all of the corporate communications for the organization.

As the ideal candidate, you are a strong communications professional possessing a minimum of five years of progressive experience in a related communications capacity. You have developed a broad skillset that allows you to be highly adaptable in your work environment. High attention to detail and exceptional communications planning is essential. With robust writing, organizational and interpersonal skills, you possess strong business acumen and are highly analytical by nature. A university degree in business, communications, public relations or related field is required.
