Role Description:
Reporting to the Manager – Structural Group, you will be an integral part of the engineering team, developing and implementing technical solutions in both the office and field. You will participate in all project phases, from proposal preparation, feasibility assessment and detailed design, through to tendering, construction and commissioning. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Provide concept and detailed design expertise for infrastructure projects including but not limited to wharfs, commercial buildings, industrial buildings, institutional facilities, and bridges.
  • Review drawings, plans and change orders to verify structural integrity of materials and designs and perform complex calculations and use modelling methods to ensure accurate results
  • Interpretation of Geotechnical Reports and Topographical studies to perform various types of foundation design
  • Coordination of design team activities, direct internal and external project team including drafting techs, sub-consultants and subcontractors
  • Conduct feasibility assessments and site inspections, as well as prepare technical reports
  • Hands-on project management including responding to proposals, preparation of specifications and bid documents, contract administration and construction reviews, budget and schedule control as well as change order management and invoicing.
  • Provide oversight and mentorship to the structural engineering team, ensuring the highest technical standards are achieved.

Your Qualifications:

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Currently registered or have the ability to register as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Nova Scotia required;
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited University required;
  • 10+ years’ applicable experience in the design and construction of infrastructure projects including, but not limited to marine structures, bridges, and buildings;
  • Experience with Risa 3D or similar software as well as previous experience in marine engineering or seismic analysis modelling software are considered very strong assets;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of structural design guidelines and codes including: Bridge Code (CSA S6-19), Concrete Code (CSA A23.3), Steel Code (CSA S16) and Timber Code (CSA O86);
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a high level of accuracy in calculations and design;
  • Demonstrated self-started with a passion for exceeding client expectations;
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills;
  • Proven experience and a demonstrated desire to mentor and oversee work of more junior staff ensuring accuracy and quality standards;
  • Able to travel to various locations across Canada, maximum 5 days per 60-90 days
