On behalf of our client, we are currently recruiting for a Director of Finance to be based at their head office in Dartmouth, NS. They have been in business for over 50 years and are recognized as a top employer in their industry, with operations located in Canada and the US. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Director of Finance has overall accountability for all financial statement preparation for our client’s group of companies and providing guidance to the accounting, payroll and accounts payable functions. Among these responsibilities, the Director of Finance will:

  • Provide leadership, guidance and mentorship to the Accounting, Payroll and Accounts Payable and Receivable functions, developing an engaged and motivated team
  • Prepare and present analysis to internal and external stakeholders on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis – financial statements, cash flow forecasts, bank compliance requirements, and tax related items completed by associated deadlines
  • Work with functional business leads to focus on continuous improvement
  • Lead annual operating and capital budgeting processes
  • Champion the use of systems and technology to improve efficiency, timeliness and accuracy of accounting functions
  • Lead the annual audit and tax return preparation processes with the external audit team
  • Evaluate and monitor internal controls and develop and implement enhancements
  • Track and report key performance indicators and produce an assortment of financial reports on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis
  • Manage corporate cash flows, including weekly, monthly and long-range cash projections for review by senior management and submission to internal stakeholders
  • Lead the planning and integration of acquisitions into the company’s back office processes, with impacts on financial reporting identified and challenges/risks mitigated

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Recognized professional accounting designation (CPA)
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in a progressive management role
  • Considerable experience in the preparation of financial statements in a multi legal entity/consolidated reporting environment
  • Solid track record in the redesign of processes to achieve greater efficiency while maintaining appropriate internal controls
  • Success in leveraging resources across all functions and levels in an organization to achieve objectives
  • Superior abilities in MS Excel and other accounting systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, coupled with a strong sense of urgency
