Founded in 1903, the BF&M group of companies operates in Bermuda, Halifax and across the Caribbean. They take great pride in helping their customers protect what matters most, as well as giving back to the communities in which they work. BF&M is comprised of several companies selling health, life, pension, property and casualty insurance products. They are currently recruiting for an Enterprise Architect to join their team in the Halifax, Nova Scotia office.

The Enterprise Architect will enable BF&M leaders to make sound information technology decisions that balance and prioritize current operational demands, disruptions, and opportunities with the longer-term strategic vision of the organization. The role will provide architectural guidance, road maps, principles, standards, and best practices. This position will require some travel to our offices in Bermuda and the Caribbean.

Responsibilities will include:

• Align architecture strategy with business goals by working with leaders to understand business requirements
• Support corporate business strategy by providing direction, guidance, and definition of all aspects of enterprise architecture including: business, information, application and technology architecture
• Collaborate with project and operations management and IT leaders to continually ensure project goals and requirements and architectural road-maps are aligned
• Develop, maintain, and govern the enterprise architecture across the organization
• Develop and communicate architectural artifacts for all areas of the enterprise (business, information, applications and technology) including but not restricted to: strategies, principles, standards, patterns, reference architecture models, target states, service catalog, inventories, compliance assessments, recommendations, decisions, impact analysis, gap analysis, specifications and estimates
• Ensure that solutions are compliant with target-state architecture models
• Direct the research and evaluation of emerging technology, industry, and market trends
• Approve the tools and components used within the enterprise
• Maintain a log of architectural decisions, trade-offs and risks

The Ideal Candidate:

• 15 or more years of IT and business/industry work experience including architecture design and deployment, systems life-cycle management, and infrastructure planning and operations
• Experience influencing senior level management and key stakeholders
• Knowledge of multiple enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF, Zachman Framework or Gartner’s Architecture practice and their strengths and weaknesses
• Significant leadership and collaboration experience working with large, cross-functional teams including remote & virtual teams
• Exposure to and working knowledge of multiple, diverse technologies and processing environments
• Knowledge of all components of holistic enterprise architecture, business re-engineering principles and processes, and basic knowledge of financial models and budgeting
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, computer engineering, system analysis, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
